Storykeep Logan is FINISHED!! As of 30.01.2011 by Gizzimomo

Well, I did it! I completerd my crazy challenge to get Logan finished in under a month so he could be submitted to the reward program...... well he's finished and has been sent off to Michele at HAED!

This time last night I really didn't think I'd get the job done as you can tell by how much was left to do in the first photo below which was taken just before bed last night.... but here he is finished and in all his glory!

I started stitching at 9am this morning and have been stitching solidly all day until just after 10pm tonight but I think it was worth it!

I'm so proud of how he came out and now I have my fingers crossed hoping for the swift arrival of Meredith Dillman's QS Emerald Dragon but in the meantime it's back to Faerie Melody for a while!!

HAED's Storykeep Logan (Page 2 Done) as of 27.01.2011 by Gizzimomo

Here's the latest update on Storykeep Logan!!

Page 2 is all done and the partial page 3 is started... dunno if I'm going to get him done by the end of the month but I'm sure going to try!! There's not so much sparklies on this page so hopefully it'll go much quicker.

I've decided not to use DMC B5200 again for HAED peices as like Kreinik it frays far to easily. I bought some Sulky 02776 pearlescent thread from my local Hobbycraft and on test stitching with it using 2 strands it stitches up much better and much more easily so I'm going to give it a try on the next HAED pice that requires a pearly thread!

Let me know if you have any thoughts any suggestions?

HAED's Storykeep Logan as of 17.01.2011 (Page 1 Done) by Gizzimomo

Here's my Storykeep Logan by Carrie Hawks..... Page 1 is done!! I managed to get the final bit done today to finish this page which was a nightmare due to all the sparklies, almost the whole of the background was done in DMC B5200 ( I hate Kreinik!!) but I think it was worth it!!

As of this morning.... almost done!

Page 1 finished!!! WooHoo!!!

1 thread over 1 square, full cross stitch

HAED's Storykeep Logan as of 12.01.2011 by Gizzimomo

Here's my progress on Storykeep Logan by Carrie Hawks as of yesterday (12.01.2011). I started this one previously to try tent stitch but hated it so here's the first update on the restart using full cross stitches.

I've substituted the Krenik for DMC Metallic B5200 Pearlescent as I HATE Krenik thread and there's loads on this peice as the majority of the background on this page is sparklies!

Love it so far...... what do you think???

Progress On Storykeep Logan by Gizzimomo

I've decided that I'm going to restart Storykeep Logan (by Carrie Hawks) when QS Darcy is finished. I did hours more work after taking the last photo but just don't like the coverage I was getting and hated the feeling of a job half done I was getting either. So I guess I am too much of a cross stitch purist for tent stitch. It was a hard decision to give up the work I'd done to restart but if I don't it's rapidly going to become a UFO and I really don't want that!

So keep your eyes out for a restart when QS Darcy is finished!!

How to Carry Threads
This is really easy...it takes a while to get used to though....and your back will look terrible...this you will have to live with...One thing...You will be working your 10 x 10 grids in colums...it makes it easier...
1. Start with a 10 x 10 grid..
2. Find your first symbol...and stitch all of that symbol in your 10 x 10 grid....When finished...
3. Find the same symbol on the 10 x 10 grid below it...take your needle and bring your thread up like you are going to make the first 1/2 of the X ...but don't do it...just unthread your needle and lay the thread down..
4. Go back to the first grid you were working on...and stitch the next symbol the same way....when finished bring your thread down....
5. continue each symbol until your first 10 x 10 grid is finished....
6. start the next 10 x 10 grid ....you should have thread there already for you to pick up and stitch...

Tent stitch variants
There are three types of tent stitch, all producing the same appearance on the front of the canvas but each worked in a slightly different way and having particular characteristics, uses, benefits and drawbacks. These variants of tent stitch are known as basketweave, continental and half cross tent stitches:
Basketweave tent stitch - The basketweave form of tent stitch is worked in diagonal rows up and down the canvas. The yarn on the back of the canvas has a typical basketweave appearance, with alternating horizontal and vertical stitches. Basketweave is the best stitch to use for covering large areas of canvas as it does not distort the canvas as the other two forms of tent stitch do.
Continental tent stitch - Continental stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitches appear diagonally across two threads. This method uses more yarn than half cross stitch tent stitch but is more hardwearing.
Half cross tent stitch - Half cross stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitch appears vertical or horizontal, not diagonal, and crosses only one thread. This method uses less yarn than other stitches but is not very durable as coverage on the back of the canvas is a little thin.
