Avarice Page 16 complete

Took a little longer to do this page, not because it was particularly difficult, but because of the Christmas festivities and I temporarily lost my stitchy bug!

Avarice pages 13, 14 and 15 complete

I left it a little while this time between updates as these last pages have stitched up really quickly. Lots of block stitching.

Anyway, these pages go more than halfway across the piece, the last of the next 3 pages being only 12 stitches wide.

I loved watching her hand come out in the stitching. I seem unable to put this piece in rotation as I am really enjoying every stitch, Bodes well for the other 6 'Sins'!

Avarice pages 11 and 12 completed

I finished both pages seeing as page 12 was only 12 stitches wide, it seemed pointless updating then having to do another a day later lol

After losing my stitchy bug for a while it came back with a vengeance and I have averaged around 700 stitches a day inbetween doing some house decorating and DIY this past month.

So the second row is now complete. The third row is confetti heavy on the first and last page but plenty of block stitching in the middle as I start her skirt.

Stitched one over one on 25ct fabric. Apologies not a great pic, bad light and a camera phone make for dreadful conditions.

Avarice Page 10 Completed

I finally finished page 10. This seemed hard going even though there was not really any confetti to speak of in comparison to page 7.

Avarice page 9 completed

This page took seemingly no time at all. Using the parking method seems to help speed up my stitch rate.

I have thoroughly enjoyed stitching this page and seeing the dress bodice come through.

It will look better once I remove the grid lines.

Avarice P8 and QS Wizard of Oz finish

Been working hard to finish QS Wizard of Oz in time for a birthday last week. I finished it with a day to spare.

QS Wizard of Oz (Gustafson) Stitched 1 over 1 on 25ct Lugana. The piece measures approx 4 x 4 inches.

I completed page 8 of Avarice too. Was a faster page as it was mainly block stitching. Some confetti comes back for page 9 but its ok. The rain we are having in the UK at the moment means more stitchy time!

Again I am stitching this 1 over 1 on 25ct Lugana

Avarice Page 7 complete

I am stitching Dahlig's Avarice one over one on 25ct lugana fabric. I have been working this now on and off for almost a year.

This weekend I completed page 7.

I am looking forward very much to page 8 as it is not confetti heavy like 7 was, although page 9 sees some more as the dress detail starts to come in.

Avarice Update!

I have completed the entire top row, some 39,200 stitches. I am stitching it one over one full crosses on 25ct Lugana.

I am taking this one out of rotation to work on QS Wizard of Oz for my Sister's birthday. I will update that one as I progress.

Avarice Page 3 finished!

I have been working Avarice on 25 count Lugana full crosses one over one.

Today I finally finished page 3 in the absence of moving house! As my move has been delayed I got stuck into this.

The facial detail is extraordinary, It just popped out from under my needle. The colour palette is fabulous. I never thought plums and burgundies would make such a difference.

I started Marta Dahlig's Avarice a couple of weeks ago and I have completed page one. Its taken about 12 days for me to do it. I am stitching this on 25 ct 1 over 1.

How to Carry Threads
This is really easy...it takes a while to get used to though....and your back will look terrible...this you will have to live with...One thing...You will be working your 10 x 10 grids in colums...it makes it easier...
1. Start with a 10 x 10 grid..
2. Find your first symbol...and stitch all of that symbol in your 10 x 10 grid....When finished...
3. Find the same symbol on the 10 x 10 grid below it...take your needle and bring your thread up like you are going to make the first 1/2 of the X ...but don't do it...just unthread your needle and lay the thread down..
4. Go back to the first grid you were working on...and stitch the next symbol the same way....when finished bring your thread down....
5. continue each symbol until your first 10 x 10 grid is finished....
6. start the next 10 x 10 grid ....you should have thread there already for you to pick up and stitch...

Tent stitch variants
There are three types of tent stitch, all producing the same appearance on the front of the canvas but each worked in a slightly different way and having particular characteristics, uses, benefits and drawbacks. These variants of tent stitch are known as basketweave, continental and half cross tent stitches:
Basketweave tent stitch - The basketweave form of tent stitch is worked in diagonal rows up and down the canvas. The yarn on the back of the canvas has a typical basketweave appearance, with alternating horizontal and vertical stitches. Basketweave is the best stitch to use for covering large areas of canvas as it does not distort the canvas as the other two forms of tent stitch do.
Continental tent stitch - Continental stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitches appear diagonally across two threads. This method uses more yarn than half cross stitch tent stitch but is more hardwearing.
Half cross tent stitch - Half cross stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitch appears vertical or horizontal, not diagonal, and crosses only one thread. This method uses less yarn than other stitches but is not very durable as coverage on the back of the canvas is a little thin.
