I'm working on QS Storykeeper. For one symbol, I need a Kreinik thread. The chart lists it as DMC 032 Kreinik #4. So I just ordered a skein of Kreinik #4 in 032 pearl. Now, isn't this a "blending filament"? Don't I use a DMC color with it, but which one as there is no DMC 032? Or do I use it alone since it's 1 over 1 on 25 ct Lugana?
TIA,
Sabine

Hi,
Number 4 braid is thicker than blending filament, but that's right what you got. It's thicker than 1 strand of floss, you might want to try crossing it and using only your top leg of the stitch next to some floss stitches and see what you like. I don't mind the difference on 28ct, and it might be less noticable on 25. Make sense?

I personally changed mine to just using white DMC. It doesn't sparkle but shows up just fine. In the Pirate Dragon it's just the soft white clouds in the sky part. I just don't like using Kreinik haha. Just my 2 cents though.
Yes! Thank you, Anita! I have never used any of the Kreiniks, can't even get it in a store around here so I've never seen it either!

Thanks Katie! This is my first HAED and only 3 weeks into it at that,so I haven't dared to change anything. On other patterns I always change colors, threads, even the pattern to suit me.

i love to change colors but i would not know where to begin on a HAED ... Michelle`s colors are perfect tho :)

as for Kreinik... it can be hard to work with... one tip if you decide to use it... use shorter lengths than usual and moisten the filament to keep it from unraveling while you stitch with it... thread heaven may work just as well. I have never used it on kreinik so as not to dull the shine
...
either way
happy stitching!

I always use blending filament as the braid is too thick for my liking.
I use mine alone in A Wintery Heirloom. I love how the sparkles add to the piece.
If you have Krenik that comes on one of the spool things try this:
Hold the spool in your non-dominant hand, deep in the palm (palm up), with the fingers over the top of the spool, and the thread coming out between the index and middle fingers. Grip the spool firmly but not extremely tight.
Using your dominate hand, take hold of the thread, and pull. You want to be gripping the spool tight enough that when you pull the thread it is slightly hard to pull, but not impossible. The thread will stretch just a little, you want the thread to stretch a little, so adjust the firmness of the grip as necessary. Grip the spool as tight as you can and still be able to pull the thread.
The point of this little exercise is it will take that "curl", caused by being wrapped around the stupid little spool, out of the thread if done correctly so that you can more easily stitch with the nasty stuff.
Laura,
Thanks for the tips! I get the feeling I will need them!

Stitchenfiend,
I'll keep that in mind if the Kreinik doesn't work out!
Sabine
Vickie,
I am hoping to tame the Kreinik because I would love the sparkles. I can imagine how beautiful it looks in your WIP!

Thank you so much, Yoyo! It hasn't arrived yet, but I may well need your advice. I really do want to learn to us it, so all help is appreciated!

Ladies!! Thanks for the awesome and helpful tips!
I have to use this too, but I think I will use with one strand of white thread. I have used this on a Christmas stocking in a Dimensions kit and I had to do the Kreinik together with one strand of white floss. So I will do the same.
