HAED's Mini Semiyar as of 19th May 2012 (10 Pages Done) by Gizzimomo

Hi everyone,

Here's an update on my progress on Mini Semiyar by Adele Sessler after finishing the tenth page. He's being stitched on 22 count Dove Grey hardanger, 1 over 1.

There is only one full page left to stitch and the remaining 5 pages are all partial pages so he should be finished in time for the next reward program with a bit of luck! Sorry that you can't see him in full but the very top of the design is over the top roller on the frame now.

HAED's Mini Semiyar as of 11th March 2012 (Page 6 Done) by Gizzimomo

Hello again everyone,

Last night I finished page 6 and Semiyar is now the proud owner of a totally stunning face!

Total Progress So Far

I'm totally in awe of how beautifully his face has come out but it's left me with a niggle through. Seeing how flawlessly his face is blended why is the background so patchy.... is it because there are only 20 odd colours in the palette that had meant the background can't be blended more as there aren't enough colours to do so? I've messaged Michele at HAED to see what she says about it but I'm just glad that the appearance of his face actually draws your attentions to Semiyar himself and away from the background so it doesn't look half as bad as it did before but it's still a real shame!

HAED's Mini Semiyar as of 4th January 2012 (Pages Three and Four Done) TOP ROW COMPLETED by Gizzimomo

Hey everyone,

I know I've been a bad blogger again but things have just been so hectic recently but now things are settling down again I should be able to get back on track!

Here's the latest shots of Semiyar....

..... so as you can see the top row of Semiyar is totally finished and I'm chuffed to bits with him. I was worried about page four as there seemed to be a couple of rather random splodges of white next to the neck of the lute but when you look at the total progress shot you can see exactly what they are and they are definately part of the lute itself! He'll be going on haitus for a spell now so I can make a start on QS Lovers for the HAED BB SAL as I need a bit of colour in my life. I may try to finish Phuan afterwards and get him out of the way and off of the WIPocalypse goals but we will see.

HAED's Mini Semiyar as of 25th December 2011 (Page 2 Done) by Gizzimomo

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Here's my Mini Semiyar update now that I have finished Page 2 and started Page 3. I was worried that the distinct lack of detail in Page 1 would continue throughout as it's been made clear that these Mini charts are the same as the BAP's but with a loss of detail. Saying that Page 2 has made the overall look definitely more detailed and I'm extremely happy with the way that it is turning out.

HAED's Mini Semiyar as of 16th December 2011 (Page One Done) by Gizzimomo

Hi guys,

Here we go..... after a slog well into the early hours of this morning Page One of Mini Semiyar is done! You may think 'Wow that was fast' but keep in mind that I'm working with a Large Format chart here so the pages are significantly smaller than they normally would be.

I'm pleased with how it came out but I am hoping that it will look much better as the other pages come along.

1 thread over 1 square (2 over 1 for Sulky metallics)

Started on 13th December 2011

How to Carry Threads
This is really easy...it takes a while to get used to though....and your back will look terrible...this you will have to live with...One thing...You will be working your 10 x 10 grids in colums...it makes it easier...
1. Start with a 10 x 10 grid..
2. Find your first symbol...and stitch all of that symbol in your 10 x 10 grid....When finished...
3. Find the same symbol on the 10 x 10 grid below it...take your needle and bring your thread up like you are going to make the first 1/2 of the X ...but don't do it...just unthread your needle and lay the thread down..
4. Go back to the first grid you were working on...and stitch the next symbol the same way....when finished bring your thread down....
5. continue each symbol until your first 10 x 10 grid is finished....
6. start the next 10 x 10 grid ....you should have thread there already for you to pick up and stitch...

Tent stitch variants
There are three types of tent stitch, all producing the same appearance on the front of the canvas but each worked in a slightly different way and having particular characteristics, uses, benefits and drawbacks. These variants of tent stitch are known as basketweave, continental and half cross tent stitches:
Basketweave tent stitch - The basketweave form of tent stitch is worked in diagonal rows up and down the canvas. The yarn on the back of the canvas has a typical basketweave appearance, with alternating horizontal and vertical stitches. Basketweave is the best stitch to use for covering large areas of canvas as it does not distort the canvas as the other two forms of tent stitch do.
Continental tent stitch - Continental stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitches appear diagonally across two threads. This method uses more yarn than half cross stitch tent stitch but is more hardwearing.
Half cross tent stitch - Half cross stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitch appears vertical or horizontal, not diagonal, and crosses only one thread. This method uses less yarn than other stitches but is not very durable as coverage on the back of the canvas is a little thin.
