Finally!

I made it!!! I am so glad I restarted on Aida. It is so much fun to stitch and I can see it grow. Here is a piccie of what I stitched last week. I was out on Thursday so this is a weeks progress.

To all you other HAED stitchers: Every time I see your beautiful designs grow I stare in awe at what you ladies out there achieve. Your pictures just stun me and make me feel like a mere beginner. But they also motivate me to keep on stitching.

Finally!!!

I made it!!! I am so glad I decided to restart Presence of Gaia on Aida. It is so much easier to stitch and much more fun. Here is my (late) update. I am stitching in a different direction, so it is not just a repetition from before and I also introduced a new color ;-)

New Start

Good morning everybody!

I decided to restart my Presence of Gaia on 18 ct. Aida. I love this design so much and I just have to stitch it. But to keep on stitching on evenweave would keep me stitching another 20 years. So I hope working on Aida will be easier for me. I haven't stitched that much yet, so it is the right time to restart. I will be in Berlin next week on business, so I probably won't be able to start until the beginning of July.

Ladies, I do love your works and your progress pictures are awesome. I sure hope that I will be able to show some real progress after the restart.

Finally...

... I can show you my first progress picture. It is definitely not much, but a start and a step in the right direction. The colors are supposed to be all blueish, but the scan didn't turn out very good.

I love what you guys are doing on our SAL Thursday and it is those pictures that keep me going. I want to see my design grow and watch it come alife.

I hope all you mothers out there will have a great Mother's Day and lots of time to stitch.

Hi there!

Good morning!

I want to introduce myself. My name is Billie, I am from Stuttgart, Germany. I discovered your Blog yesterday. Since I have also started to stitch one of HAEDs designs, I decided to join.

I am stitching "Presence of Gaia". I have not finished a lot yet. Once I started, I realized how big a project it is going to be. I have stitched large designs in the past as well, but nothing as complex as this one. So I hope you will give me moral support to finish this project of a lifetime.

Here is a link to my blog, where you can see some of my finished projects. I started to post the smaller ones, the ones I can scan. I have to take photos with my digicam of the large ones, but I am not very good at taking pictures. But in the end I will persevere and the pictures will find their way in my blog.

How to Carry Threads
This is really easy...it takes a while to get used to though....and your back will look terrible...this you will have to live with...One thing...You will be working your 10 x 10 grids in colums...it makes it easier...
1. Start with a 10 x 10 grid..
2. Find your first symbol...and stitch all of that symbol in your 10 x 10 grid....When finished...
3. Find the same symbol on the 10 x 10 grid below it...take your needle and bring your thread up like you are going to make the first 1/2 of the X ...but don't do it...just unthread your needle and lay the thread down..
4. Go back to the first grid you were working on...and stitch the next symbol the same way....when finished bring your thread down....
5. continue each symbol until your first 10 x 10 grid is finished....
6. start the next 10 x 10 grid ....you should have thread there already for you to pick up and stitch...

Tent stitch variants
There are three types of tent stitch, all producing the same appearance on the front of the canvas but each worked in a slightly different way and having particular characteristics, uses, benefits and drawbacks. These variants of tent stitch are known as basketweave, continental and half cross tent stitches:
Basketweave tent stitch - The basketweave form of tent stitch is worked in diagonal rows up and down the canvas. The yarn on the back of the canvas has a typical basketweave appearance, with alternating horizontal and vertical stitches. Basketweave is the best stitch to use for covering large areas of canvas as it does not distort the canvas as the other two forms of tent stitch do.
Continental tent stitch - Continental stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitches appear diagonally across two threads. This method uses more yarn than half cross stitch tent stitch but is more hardwearing.
Half cross tent stitch - Half cross stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitch appears vertical or horizontal, not diagonal, and crosses only one thread. This method uses less yarn than other stitches but is not very durable as coverage on the back of the canvas is a little thin.
