Another mega post - Pethair-xstitcher

The month of July has been a cool and rainy one, so much so that most outdoor acitvities have been spoilt by the constant douwnpouring of rain. All those vacationers with hopes of camping, sunbathing and swimming have been very disappointed. The only thing that the weather has not dampened are the festivals held every year here in Montreal : the International Jazz fest, The comedy fest and the International fireworks competition.... oh and yup, mushrooms are popping up all over.

Lots of time for stitching too as that is an indoor activity, so here it is: (as this is a pictere heavy post I will not put in before and after pics...)
First, a new start : Advice from a caterpillar (S Gustafson) Tented 1 0ver 1 in HDF silks on 32 ct Lugana (SMF Vista)

Then Claire's Wings (Kinuko). I am moving upwards in the chart to catch a glimpse of

Clarie.

Heart of the World (Sanderson), I started the next page across and doing more of the black and red leaves.:

and some colour is coming in on QS Poppy Fairy(JBG)

Lastly, some more work on Home is where the Cat is (Sanderson) - the picture of the kitties in the background are here.

Well that is it for the month of July... here is hoping that the summer arrives soon and that we all have a great stitching month!

New starts and some dancing - Sonya (Pethair Xstitcher)

This has been a busy month for me and thinking back i wonder if i slept... my husband is of the opinion that I have not... grin. I am tired and will take a break for a few days but there is a picture that I have been holding back... yup a finish! I will show that to you all on the 24th... for Fairy Day.

The time has come the Walrus said, to talk of many things...

Hello everyone! I have taken the time to view your work so far and I have enjoyed seeing each piece... a feast for the eyes!
Most of you already know me well as Pethairxstitcher on the HAED BB (Sonya), but for those of you who do not I will give you a brief intro before inundating you with my current wips. I am from Quebec Canada but Austrian by birth and have been stitching HAEDs since some time late 2005. Ok... enough of the boring stuff, lets get on with the show.

My current active wips are as follows:

May I have this Dance (S Fenech) 32ct Lugana (Burnt Papyrus from SMF) and is an experiment in combining full X with tent 1 over 1

How to Carry Threads
This is really easy...it takes a while to get used to though....and your back will look terrible...this you will have to live with...One thing...You will be working your 10 x 10 grids in colums...it makes it easier...
1. Start with a 10 x 10 grid..
2. Find your first symbol...and stitch all of that symbol in your 10 x 10 grid....When finished...
3. Find the same symbol on the 10 x 10 grid below it...take your needle and bring your thread up like you are going to make the first 1/2 of the X ...but don't do it...just unthread your needle and lay the thread down..
4. Go back to the first grid you were working on...and stitch the next symbol the same way....when finished bring your thread down....
5. continue each symbol until your first 10 x 10 grid is finished....
6. start the next 10 x 10 grid ....you should have thread there already for you to pick up and stitch...

Tent stitch variants
There are three types of tent stitch, all producing the same appearance on the front of the canvas but each worked in a slightly different way and having particular characteristics, uses, benefits and drawbacks. These variants of tent stitch are known as basketweave, continental and half cross tent stitches:
Basketweave tent stitch - The basketweave form of tent stitch is worked in diagonal rows up and down the canvas. The yarn on the back of the canvas has a typical basketweave appearance, with alternating horizontal and vertical stitches. Basketweave is the best stitch to use for covering large areas of canvas as it does not distort the canvas as the other two forms of tent stitch do.
Continental tent stitch - Continental stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitches appear diagonally across two threads. This method uses more yarn than half cross stitch tent stitch but is more hardwearing.
Half cross tent stitch - Half cross stitch is worked horizontally or vertically across the canvas. On the back of the work, the stitch appears vertical or horizontal, not diagonal, and crosses only one thread. This method uses less yarn than other stitches but is not very durable as coverage on the back of the canvas is a little thin.
